R.F.A.E.M.S.S was established in the year 2012 and was the brainchild of the Diocesan Bishop of Nnewi, Most Rev. Jonas Benson Okoye who saw the need to erect a good Catholic Secondary School in Amawbia. With the approval of the Diocesan Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Simon Akwali Okafor of Blessed Memory, the vision of having a Secondary school which will also serve as a Cathecatical Centre came into actualization in September 2012 with 34 students who were distributed into two arms, ten tutorial staff and Lady Eugenia Njideka Oguejiofor as the Principal.
Just like the biblical mustard seed, the school has grown and densely populated but while trying to actualize this dream of building a good secondary school, Bishop Jonas Benson was faced with a lot of challenges especially that of finance. The heavy load was lightened with the help of some devoted parishioners who piloted the bazaar. Prominent among them are; Chief Dr Victor Oye, Sir Ikem Odumodu, Sir William Nwokoye, Mrs Maureen Odiliatu, Sir Edward Dijeh and a host of others, including his ever-supporting Vicar; Rev Fr Fabian Anumba who assisted him.
Though saddled with great tasks and problems, Bishop Jonas Benson courageously tackled them and managed the school effectively. As the founder of the school, discipline was his slogan; both the students and the staff really enjoyed his stay as he set the veritable ground for the pioneer manager, Rev Fr. Anthony Atansi. Just like a child whose mouth was removed from his mother’s breast, the Bishop was transferred to St Mary’s Catholic Church Awka. The school felt the impact of his absence but he had Rev. Fr. Anthony Atansi as his assistant whom he commissioned to be his manager and contributed immensely to the growth of the school. Rev. Fr. Anthony Atansi handed over to Rev Fr Valentine Ofomata as manager who piloted the affairs of the school. Under his regime, the school was fully accredited; the erosion-prone field of play was checked and fenced. He was equally assisted by Rev Fr Cyprian Ezeakunne, Samuel Aniebonam and Godwin Obiano. He later transferred the mantle of leadership to Rev Fr Alphonsus Obiekezie and travelled abroad for further studies.
Academically, since the inception of the school, it has been achieving its goals. For instance, in all the external examinations, the school has been scoring 100% in BECE, WAEC and NECO in all the subjects. More so, in extracurricular activities like sports, match past, debate, quiz competitions, drama, cultural dances and choir. The school had its first cultural day on 3rd December 2015 and the first inter-house sports Competition on 7th April 2017. Presently, the incumbent manager Rev Fr Alphonsus Obiekezie in his tireless efforts to move the school higher, has introduced many reforms in the school, such as the Band group, volleyball, and badminton to mention but a few.
With the rate of progress and success recorded in academics, sports and character formation in the school, one can without doubt see that it reflects the motto of the school, which is SCIENTIA ET METUS DEI meaning knowledge with the fear of God. The school has been soaring, with many graduates who represent the school very well in their different capacities. May God continue to bless all those who have been contributing to her success.
